RAF Benevolent Fund visits Star & Garter
Paul Hughesdon, Director of Welfare and Policy for the RAF Benevolent Fund, visited the Royal Star & Garter Home, Solihull on 26th January 2012 to inspect the new “Roundel Wing”, built with a £1.3 million donation from the RAF Benevolent Fund. The Roundel Wing provides a full and meaningful life for residents with dementia in a safe and homely environment, promoting choice, safety and peace of mind.
The RAF Benevolent Fund is also donating £700,000 towards the construction of a new Royal Star & Garter home in Surbiton, on which work has just begun.
During his visit Mr Hughesdon also met RAF family residents of the Solihull Home, Brian and Margaret Tennet. Mr Tennet was one of the first residents to arrive when the Home opened in August 2008, and his wife became a resident just two weeks ago.

Mr Hughesdon said:
“It has been a great pleasure to visit the Roundel Wing and see the absolutely first class care it provides. As the RAF’s leading welfare charity we are determined to provide as much relief as we can for those suffering from dementia and their carers.
“Our donation to establish the Roundel Wing is a big part of that effort. I’m very proud of the way we work closely with the Royal Star & Garter to deliver care where it is most needed among the RAF family, and I look forward to attending the opening of the new Surbiton home in the near future.”
