RAF Charities Put Computers To Good Use

Three computers that were provided for an internet café at RAF Cottesmore will be used to help forces youngsters.
The computers were originally part of the RAF Association’s internet café initiative, which aims to help families feel closer together by enabling them to stay in touch more easily.
The café was opened by Kate Adie in 2006, following a large donation from the charity, and families and RAF personnel of all ages came through the doors to use the facilities and meet friends, while their children made use of the play area.

Now, with the imminent closure of Cottesmore as a RAF base, the Army is looking to provide its own equipment for the café.
As a result, the computers will go to the Airplay youth project on the station.
Airplay is the RAF Benevolent Fund’s £24 million support project for children and young people in RAF families.
At RAF Cottesmore it is providing a youth drop-in and community youth club, where young people are able to participate in a range of arts and crafts, sports based activities, competitions, games and trips.
The station’s Community Development Officer, Patrick Lewis-Brown, said:
“It is my role to deliver youth work on station. The Airplay Youth Support Project is looking to deliver an educational aspect using the computer as a medium.
“The PCs will be utilised by RAF young people as there will be a substantial number of RAF families in SFA at RAF Cottesmore for the forseeable future.”
