Serving Charities and proper acknowledgement and support[L]

The Covenant and subsequent action has been ‘Serving light’ to say the least. The argument goes: If it concerns the serving it is the job of the military to sort it out with public money.
We all know that there is a significant role and place for charities in support of ‘serving personnel’.
We also know that not all military problems have military solutions.

I would like to discuss how charities for the serving can improve their collective profile so that they do not get ignored, for example when it comes to the considerations of the CRG and grants from Libor fines and in the wider context of being known and appreciated for our support of the military.

the fact it took over 6 years to get the serving cluster established is evidence enough of what we are up against.

Challenge for the cluster i feel.

    Dear Mark,
Good point well made. Not sure I know enough about CRG (Q.E.D?) etc to be able to help discussion in the forum. Shame you aren’t able to come on the 29th but it will be interesting to see if anyone contributes here or at the meeting.

On the subject of the meeting, hope readers are noticing that reports are beiong added the documents section to read in advance…

I take it that the lack of response is either an indication that the website and these forums are not catching on or no one cares about the subject!

I did put the subject up to see what the level of engagement would be.

Moving on we need as a group to come up with a list of we want from COBSEO

My main one at the moment is:

Ensure CRG and LIBOR fund criteria are fully aware of the work for Serving Personnel and that we are included in the criteria for funding.
Also put the argument that such funding should not be for new projects. ideally this money should support the running costs of good charities. This endless appetite for new projects suggests that what we have been doing for years is failing. If that is the case we should all pack up and go. If not we should be putting the argument and case that we are succeeding. This may also prevent the creation of endless new charities.
Our own fundraisers are partly to blame as they believe painting a bleak picture increases income! discuss….

    Dear Mark,
We did discuss the periodicity of logging in to the forum at the meeting and encouraged users to do so weekly, but this is likely to take time to catch on (even for me in my 12 hour days) .. I also asked that there be a ‘notify all forum users’ button that would e-mail the Cluster members when posts were made ….
I am sure you realise that one of the reasons it is often a struggle to get funding for existing running costs is because of the implication that it would become an ongoing commitment. However, I believe some charities do fund other’s costs that way so good luck and several of my successful grant applications have been for improvements or replacements of equipment/repairs for example (even from Libor) rather than ‘new’ projects. Not being in fundraising is perhaps the reason I am still unable to help much on this.
