The RAF Association- Eastern Welfare Holiday Chalets

The popular holiday location of Hemsby, situated on the east coast of Norfolk, is perfect for exploring the Norfolk Broads and other places of interest, including Sandringham House.
Being so close to the beach and just north of the popular resort of Great Yarmouth, it is also ideal for families of all ages.
Since 1987 the RAF Association’s Eastern Area has been operating a welfare project at the Sea Dell Estates Site in Hemsby.
The project originated when the Eastern Area RAF Association Liaison Officers (RAFALO) thought it would be a good idea to have a facility on the coast that provided self sufficient and low cost, self-catering welfare holiday breaks.
They started to raise funds for the project and it began with two chalets, which were very much on a make and mend basis, with clients receiving the keys by post and cleaning the chalets themselves.
Over the years the project developed, with RAFALOs raising funds and RAF Association branches making generous donations to enable further chalets to be purchased, provide all the equipment needed in them and to meet the wear and tear expenses at the end of the season.
The project became more refined and the Association was able to develop a Chalet Reception Service. Now the project has seven chalets – six for accommodation and one for Chalet Reception. The Chalet Reception couple are Dave and Angie Barraclough and they play a pivitol role as the local friendly face at Hemsby.
The chalets are extremely well equipped for a maximum of four people with a bathroom, sitting room, two bedrooms and a kitchen area.
The chalets also boast flat screen televisions and very comfortable fixtures and fittings.
During the closed season they have been redecorated and new furniture purchased, as well as the completion of some basic building maintenance.
From the outset this has been a very popular project with most clients returning time after time.
All RAF Association members, serving and ex-serving RAF personnel and their dependents are eligible to go to Hemsby for a break and the chalets can cater for a range of special needs and disabilities.
The season starts on the first Saturday in May and runs through to mid October.
The weekly fees per chalet for 2012 are:
Welfare Rate £95.00; Full Rate £135.00
