Just after its launch, The Forces in Mind Trust was approached by Jewellery Designer, Philippa Holland because she wanted to stage the first side-saddle race for 90 years. The last recorded race ridden purely side-saddle took place in Dorset in 1921.

On the 2nd of February 2013 the race, sponsored by Bernard Weatherall, took place at Ingarsby Old Hall, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Forces in Mind Trust’s Chairman, Tony Stables went along to speak to supporters who included many members of the Household Cavalry who staged their annual race just before the main event.

“It was an extremely exciting race and quite terrifying to watch at times. The enthusiastic support for The Forces In Mind Trust was quite touching.”
