A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Welfare and Welfare Housing Advisor in the Volunteer Operations Department at SSAFA, the UK’s oldest national tri-service military charity.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced individual to provide excellent and current welfare knowledge and assistance to our national volunteer network who provide a caseworking service to veterans, their families and currently serving military personnel. The role is a vital component and makes consistent decisions on the SSAFA grant giving process from centralised restricted funds and also provides pro-active advice to volunteers to secure funds for clients from other sources.


To carry out this role successfully you will have knowledge of welfare issues, such as the current benefits system and payments, local authority housing processes and homelessness, funeral grants, disability, debt, mobility, immigration etc.

Excellent customer service and experience of working with volunteers with sensitivity are expected and previous work, in particular the grant giving process, within the charity sector desirable.

Whilst knowledge of the Armed Forces is not essential, a basic level of understanding the services and the larger military charities would be preferable.
