The Community Hub and Volunteer Coordinator is a hands-on and engaging role suited to an organised and motivated individual with excellent communication and teamwork skills. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of veterans, serving personnel, operational qualified seafarers and their immediate families in Cornwall by co-ordinating hubs, engaging volunteers, and building strong community connections.

We are recruiting a Community Hub and Volunteer Coordinator to lead and coordinate the delivery of monthly, multi-agency Veterans Regroup hubs over six locations in Cornwall. This role includes leading and co-ordinating additional services at our four existing hubs and leading the launch and setup of two new hubs in Penzance and Liskeard. The hubs are supported and attended by over 30 military charities, VCSE organsations, the NHS, Cornwall Council, RAF St Mawgan and RNAS Culdrose across Cornwall. The hubs provide a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where everyone feels valued and supported. The hubs aim to address health inequalities and support all veterans, serving personnel, operational qualified seafarers and their immediate families, including those who are vulnerable and marginalised, by providing holistic support, advice, and social engagement opportunities.

The Community Hub and Volunteer Coordinator will also ensure the sustainability of the project by fostering community ownership, expanding volunteer engagement, and maintaining strategic partnerships.

KEY TASKS:

  • Hub Management: Organise and oversee six hubs, specifically with leading and co-ordinating additional services at our four existing multi-agency hubs and leading the launch and setup of two new hubs in Penzance and Liskeard. The role includes booking venues, undertaking risk assessments, insurance, paperwork (sign-in/out sheets, hub registration forms), organise refreshments, first aid cover, ensuring all venues are fit for purpose.
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Manage the monthly Veterans Regroup hubs, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and health and safety standards.
  • Volunteer Management & Support: Recruit, induct and oversee Veteran Community volunteers, ensuring completion of all necessary DBS checks. Create volunteer roles, develop a comprehensive volunteer pack and policy to guide engagement, set clear expectations, and implement a robust strategy to support and retain volunteers.
  • Marketing & Communications: Promote the hubs using PR, social media, themed events, printed and digital flyers, and community outreach.
  • Website & Social Media Updates: Work with our website developer to regularly update the Veterans Regroup and Smart Savings websites. Create and maintain an online calendar of events and update social media platforms to ensure all hub dates, times and locations are easy to find.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with NHS services, Cornwall Council, Armed Forces charities, and other community organisations to enhance service delivery.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Collect qualitative and quantitative data on hub attendance and activities, monitor performance, and complete reports against key performance indicators.
  • Event Coordination: Attend, deliver, or manage events related to the Armed Forces Community. Some weekend work may be required such as attending Armed Forces Breakfast Clubs.
  • Team and Partnership Meetings: Organise weekly internal team meetings and quarterly partnership reviews to ensure continuous improvement and collaboration.
  • Community Engagement: Work closely with local veteran communities to ensure their involvement in decision-making and hub activities. Set up volunteer committees in each town and create a variety of volunteer opportunities. Facilitate peer support and access to transport for veterans facing mobility or financial challenges.
  • Sustainability Planning: Contribute to funding and strategic planning, as well as organising and supporting fundraising events to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Compliance and Safeguarding: Ensure strict adherence to GDPR/DPA, confidentiality policies, safeguarding regulations, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Provide tailored one-to-one advice and support to veterans, serving personnel, operationally qualified seafarers, and their immediate families at the hubs as needed. Additionally, offer clear signposting, make referrals, and carry out effective casework to ensure the most suitable support is put in place.
  • Travel Requirements: As the role covers six hub locations, a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
  • Undertake training as may be required.

This role requires an Enhanced DBS check as it falls under the exceptions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
