£26k boost for SSAFA’s Mentoring Scheme from RNRMC and Greenwich Hospital

The Mentoring Service of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity has been awarded £26,000 by the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) and Greenwich Hospital, covering a one-year period.

SSAFA’s Mentoring Scheme provides advice and support as members of the Armed Forces and their families move from a career in the Armed Forces to Civvy Street.

The service is available for up to two years after leaving the Armed Forces, but most contact the service in the run-up to military discharge, for support to prepare and to navigate the practical and emotional issues that can follow transition.

The scheme helps motivate, support, build resilience and empower those leaving UK Armed Forces, and enables them to fulfil their potential in their new lives outside the military. The service is tailored to each individual and the support is available for as long as needed and not according to a fixed timescale or number of mentoring sessions.

The £26,000 grant is ringfenced for members of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines exiting their respective services, and will allow SSAFA mentors to give one-to-one, face-to-face support to beneficiaries.

Clare Bain, SSAFA’s Mentoring and Gurkha Services Manager, said:

“SSAFA’s vision is for a society in which the Armed Forces, veterans and their families can thrive, and we can only achieve this through the support of our key partners such as RNRMC and Greenwich Hospital.

“And so, we’re immensely grateful to RNRMC and Greenwich Hospital for this generous support. This funding allows us to help our mutual beneficiaries at a time when they need us most, ensuring that whatever life throws at them, they’ll never battle alone.”

Mandy Lindley, Director of Relationships and Funding at RNRMC, said:

“Helping members of our Forces family thrive beyond their time in uniform is hugely important. That’s why we continue to support SSAFA’s Mentoring Service in partnership with Greenwich Hospital.

“Transitioning to civilian life can be a challenging journey, and this service offers tailored, one-to-one support at this significant time. It’s making a real difference—and it’s exactly the kind of long-term, personal support we’re committed to backing.”
