As CEO of Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) I have the privilege of leading a team dedicated to supporting sailors, marines, and their families for life. Our role is to ensure that those who serve — and those who have served — are never forgotten, and that they have access to the practical help, emotional support, and opportunities they need to thrive. RNRMC works closely with many Cobseo members and funds a wide range of projects and partner charities that provide everything from crisis grants and mental health services to family support, transition assistance, and initiatives that improve quality of life at sea and on shore.
Being part of the Cobseo Executive Committee provides RNRMC with a strategic platform to collaborate at the highest level with other leading charities and stakeholders in the Armed Forces community. Through Cobseo it enables us to play an active role in shaping policy, responding collectively to emerging needs, and ensuring that the voices of naval personnel and their families are heard. The Executive Committee is also a space for challenge and shared learning — both of which are vital to good governance and impactful delivery.
Membership of Cobseo strengthens our ability to deliver joined-up, comprehensive support by connecting us with a broad network of like-minded organisations. It ensures that we remain aligned with best practice, informed about issues affecting the wider military community, and able to signpost beneficiaries effectively. Through Cobseo, we work in partnership to avoid duplication and maximise the value of every donation we receive — helping ensure that no one falls through the cracks.
One story that stands out is our support for a young naval family facing sudden and severe financial hardship due to illness. Through our close partnership with front-line charities, we were able to provide a rapid grant to cover essential living costs, medical travel, and childcare. The speed and compassion of the response not only brought relief at a critical time, but also showed the family that they were not alone. It’s a powerful reminder of why RNRMC exists — to be there in the moments that matter, with real, tangible support that changes lives.
