Fighting With Pride met with the FRS team on 17 October 2025, and tabled a range of questions that the FWP team have received since our last update on the scheme on the 26th September.
As at the 13 October there were 1,212 Applications submitted to the scheme comprising 924 for DD, and 956 for IP. So far 323 DD claims have been paid (35%) and 147 IP Claims have been paid (15%). The sums paid out to date total £15.4M.
The Dashboard publishing statistics is in the final stages of development and is expected to be live before the end of October.
Thus far 11 Appeals have been submitted, and only three of these have been accepted to be considered. An appeal will only be accepted for consideration under the scheme rules if the grounds fall within the rules, and evidence to support it is supplied. FWP has secured advice for Appeals so please do reach out to us for support if you are considering making an appeal.
Some applicants who have had their claims for DD payment rejected have not applied for an Impact Payment. If you have been rejected for a DD claim we would encourage you to consider making an IP claim. The FRS team can’t tell you make an IP claim but its important to not ignore this opportunity.
If you have received confirmation that you are to be awarded a payment it is important to respond and confirm your bank account details.
The Impact panel is now sitting twice each week, and they are averaging around 20 of those cases each week.
All vacant posts in the FRS team have been filled and the staff trained, following the lobbying for additional support.
If an application for an IP has insufficient information detailed in the statement and there is a statement in that Veteran’s DD application the Impact panel will look at that statement, but it is really important to ensure you put as much detail as possible into your Impact Statement to support your claim. The FWP team are here to support you with this.
In terms of raising awareness of the scheme, a pack of information is going to be sent out to Local Authorities, Doctors Surgeries, and the NHS to raise awareness. We have shared our view that much more needs to be done to raise awareness and in particular much more promotion in LGBTQ Media, press and Venues. A scheme of this size, where lost Veterans are been targeted, deserves so much more resources.
We continue to support applicants across the country, and indeed abroad. If you want help advice and support with your claim, or indeed an appeal please do contact us via info@fightingwithpride.org.uk or directly with our Veteran Community Worker if you are already in contact with one of the team.
