SSAFA Germany have been out in force this summer, representing the Armed Forces charity at two popular community events.

The first was the annual Military Fair at Normandy Barracks, Sennelager, where a strong team showcased the charity’s work and entertained visitors with classic games including a coconut shy and welly wanging, kindly loaned by volunteer Tam Pierce. With the sun shining, the team spoke to attendees about the support SSAFA provides to serving personnel, veterans and their families, while also welcoming new members and raising vital funds for the branch.
The highlight of the summer came at the British Weekend held at the Bad Lippspringe Garten Schau, celebrating all things British from classic cars to cream teas, Highland Games and bagpipe music. SSAFA Germany proudly represented the veteran community with two lively stands featuring golf darts and duck angling, engaging with families and locals keen to share memories of the British military presence in Germany.
Paul Janes, Chair of SSAFA Germany branch, said: “These events are a great way to connect with our communities, meet new supporters and remind people that SSAFA is still here for the Armed Forces family in Germany. It was fantastic to see so many people taking part and showing such enthusiasm.”
The event provided a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of SSAFA’s ongoing work supporting veterans and their families – many of those now part of the German community, while adding a welcome boost to the branch’s fundraising efforts.
SSAFA has been working for the whole UK Armed Forces community for 140 years, since 1885. Its mission is simple: to reach and embrace the Armed Forces family, so they never battle alone. For more information, and to access support, visit: ssafa.org.uk/requestingbackup
