First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps) signs the Armed Forces Covenant

On Wednesday evening, the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (FANY) marked a significant milestone in its long association with the military by formally signing the Armed Forces Covenant at its headquarters. The ceremony was attended by General Officer Commanding London District (GOC LONDIST), General James Bowder, senior representatives of the FANY and guests from the City of London Lieutenancy. Following the signing, guests enjoyed a reception and witnessed a live demonstration of FANY training, showcasing the Corps’ unique capabilities and operational readiness.

The Covenant was signed by General Officer Commanding London District (GOC LONDIST), General James Bowder, on behalf of the Armed Forces, and by the Lisa Giles, Commanding Officer of the FANY, symbolising a shared commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community. This historic event formalises over a century of dedicated service by the FANY to the military. The Covenant represents not only a pledge to uphold the values of the Armed Forces but also reinforces the Corps’ close affiliation with them.

Commanding Officer Lisa Giles commented:

“Signing the Armed Forces Covenant is a proud and defining moment for the FANY. For more than 100 years, we have supported the military in times of peace and conflict. This formal commitment strengthens our bond and recognises the vital role our volunteers play.”

The signing also carries practical significance for FANY members. The Corps regularly engages with employers to explain the nature of FANY service and encourage support for volunteers, including consideration of Covenant benefits such as additional leave for training. Now, with the FANY itself a signatory, the Corps can confidently advocate for these measures on behalf of its members.
