More than 100 people enjoyed a lively evening at The Greatest Car Manufacturer Debate, held recently at London Scottish House in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity as part of A Driving Force for SSAFA 2026 (ADF26). Some £18,134 was raised on the night.
The event, which included a charity auction, was put together by ADF26 participants Alex and Harriet Wolfe as part of their fundraising for SSAFA.
Chaired by Alex, the debate on the five marques and their erudite and expert champions were:
- Ryszard Nowobilski for Aston Martin
- JayEmm (James Martin) for Ferrari
- Jeremy Walton for Ford
- Iain Tyrrell for Lamborghini
- John Thorne for McLaren
Guests voted for their favourite manufacturer with each vote bought helping their chosen marque claim the crown all while supporting SSAFA. The winner of the debate by number of votes was Aston Martin, but in terms of money raised, McLaren pipped Aston Martin to the post and was crowned the greatest car company of all time.
Before the event, Alex explained why he and Harriet are organising the debate and auction, saying:
“We fundamentally want to support our veterans and their families. SSAFA does this all year round, therefore we want to put on an evening where everyone enjoys a night of fun, but we can also raise a huge amount for the charity, helping it to continue its great work.”
Even those unable to attend that once-in-a-lifetime event can still support SSAFA by making a donation to Alex and Harriet’s fundraising for ADF26 here.
