SSAFA East Yorkshire volunteers honoured for exceptional dedication at AGM

Dedicated volunteers who have gone above and beyond to support the armed forces community were honoured at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity’s East Yorkshire Annual General Meeting.

The event, held at Leconfield RAF Base, celebrated the achievements and commitment of volunteers across the branch, recognising the vital difference they make to serving personnel, veterans and their families.

During the AGM, branch president James Dick presented Sandra Staples, the Branch Secretary and fundraising coordinator with a James Gildea Exceptional Service Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to SSAFA.

David Eldridge was also presented with a Long Service Award, recognising his years of dedication and commitment to supporting the charity and the armed forces community.

Guests also heard from Flight Lieutenant Annette Oliver, part of the Combined Cadet Force at Read School, who delivered an inspiring speech about her work supporting and developing young people through the cadet movement.

Angela Holsworth, SSAFA’s Deputy National Chair, praised the commitment of volunteers across the organisation and highlighted the enormous impact they have on the lives of forces families across the UK.

Trevor Evans, Chair of SSAFA East Yorkshire Branch, said:

“Our volunteers are the heart of SSAFA and the reason we can continue supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families when they need us most.

“It was a privilege to recognise Sandra and David for their dedication and service. Their commitment, alongside the work of all our volunteers, makes a genuine and lasting difference to people’s lives across East Yorkshire and beyond.

“We were also delighted to hear from Flight Lieutenant Annette Oliver and Angela Holsworth, whose speeches reminded everyone of the importance of supporting both the current and future armed forces community.”

SSAFA volunteers have been helping the Armed Forces community – regulars and reserves, serving or retired, and their families since 1885. To volunteer or fundraise for SSAFA, or to seek support, search for “SSAFA near me.
