SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, will once again be welcoming motorcycle enthusiasts to the British Superbike Championship at Thruxton Motor Circuit, offering its much-loved Bikers’ Cloakroom service while raising vital funds to support the Armed Forces community.
Thousands of spectators are expected to attend the event, which runs from 14-16 August, is one of the highlights of the British Superbike calendar, with races broadcast to audiences across the UK and around the world.
Thanks to the continued support of Thruxton Motor Circuit Events Manager, Lorne Mitchener, SSAFA Hampshire has once again been invited to provide its popular Bikers’ Cloakroom.
Volunteers, supported by cadets from 457 (Farnborough) Squadron Air Training Corps, will safely store riders’ leathers, helmets and other riding gear for a small donation, allowing visitors to enjoy the event without carrying heavy equipment around the circuit.
While it may sound straightforward, the operation is a significant logistical challenge. Over the course of the weekend, volunteers can look after up to 1,000 sets of motorcycle gear, carefully labelling, storing and retrieving every item to ensure it is returned safely to its owner.
Alongside the cloakroom, visitors will also be able to visit the SSAFA stand to learn more about the charity’s work supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families, purchase merchandise and take part in popular fundraising tombola.
Funds raised during the event will help SSAFA continue providing practical, emotional and financial support to members of the Armed Forces community when they need it most.
