The White Ensign Association (WEA) is once again joining the Ministry of Defence for Pension Awareness Week, from 14–17 September 2026. This year, the charity is calling on serving personnel, Reservists and veterans across the Naval community to ask: Are you pension aware?
Working alongside the Ministry of Defence and Royal Navy Remuneration, the WEA will support activity throughout the week aimed at raising awareness and helping the Armed Forces community better understand their pensions, entitlements and choices.
At the heart of the WEA’s Pension Awareness Week activity will be its free live webinar, ‘Understanding Your AFPS’, led by WEA Armed Forces Pension experts David Scholey and Marty Small.
Royal Navy and Royal Marines veterans themselves, Dave and Marty will take attendees through the three main Armed Forces Pension Schemes, AFPS 75, AFPS 05 and AFPS 15, explaining how they work, the key differences between them and what they mean for their members.
They will also cover Early Departure Payments (EDP), breaks in service, the 2015 McCloud Remedy, resettlement grants, dependants’ benefits, and answer questions from attendees during the live session.
The WEA is a registered charity providing free, independent and impartial guidance to the Naval community. This Pension Awareness Week session is open to members of all the UK Armed Forces as part of our commitment to helping people better understand their pension and make informed decisions about their future.
