Applications are invited for the post of full time Communications Support Officer (CSO) with East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (EM RFCA) to work within EM RFCA Headquarters at Triumph Road, Nottingham, NG7 2GG. The successful candidate will be expected to reside within daily travelling distance of the EM RFCA HQ.
EMRFCA Role and Responsibilities
East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (EM RFCA) is responsible for managing and maintaining the Army Reserves and Cadet premises across the East Midlands and contributes to wider Ministry of Defence (MoD) outputs. We play a leading role in strengthening the environment for the Armed Forces through building relationships with local communities and employers. We help deliver the MoD’s youth support programme through the MoD sponsored Cadet Forces, providing opportunities for young people to reach their fullest potential, irrespective of background. We are also responsible for engaging with Reservists’ employers, supporting Reservists and Cadets, and assisting with recruitment of Army Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
General Description of the Role
The Communications Support Officer will work alongside the Communications Manager to raise awareness of the valuable contribution made by our people, the Reserve and Cadet Forces, EMRFCA and Forces-friendly organisations across the East Midlands.
This is a varied and creative role which will involve managing our social media channels, producing and scheduling engaging content, coordinating the monthly newsletter and keeping our website content fresh and relevant.
The successful candidate will also attend events and arrange interviews to capture written, photographic and video content. This could involve visiting Reserve units to showcase the work of Reservists, attending Cadet events and camps to capture their experiences, or reporting on new facilities and initiatives supporting the Reserve and Cadet Forces.
You will also produce graphics and multimedia content for social media, newsletters and reports, monitor the Association’s enquiries inbox and provide communications support and guidance to Reserve and Cadet units when required.
An important part of the role will be monitoring and analysing our digital channels, producing monthly analytics and providing commentary on their performance.
The ideal candidate will have studied or have relevant experience in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field, together with experience of producing written, photographic and video content.
Experience of managing social media channels, content management systems, Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud is essential.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is creative, proactive, organised, self-motivated and confident, with a can-do attitude and the ability to use their own initiative.
Terms and Conditions
The successful candidate will be employed by EM RFCA with the status of a Crown Servant, Pay Band – Administrative Officer (AO) £27,866. The successful applicant may be asked to undertake work-related travel and on occasion require out of hours work. Annual leave, excluding public holidays, is 25 days per annum (full-time equivalent), rising to 30 days after five years’ service.
Previous HM Armed Forces service or public sector service will count towards qualifying years of service.
The successful candidate will be eligible to join the Council of RFCA’s Pension Scheme which operates on a Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) in which the employer contribution is 13% and the employee contribution 5%.
Probation
The appointment is for an initial probation period of 6 months and final confirmation of your appointment is dependent upon the satisfactory completion of this probationary period.
