Additional self-employment support for Armed Forces spouses and partners

Following a successful pilot during the latter half of 2020; delivering virtual self-employment awareness sessions, enterprise start-up skills workshops, peer-to-peer support and advice to three cohorts over six months; X-Forces Enterprise and Royal British Legion are delighted to confirm that five more cohorts will be supported over the next 12 months, starting in April 2021.

Sally Hitchens, a beneficiary from one of the three pilot cohorts commented on the programme;

“This course has helped me so much! I’ve learnt about the different aspects of business, I feel that I can write my business plan with confidence, and I am now looking forward to the goals I have set for myself. I have really enjoyed speaking to the other course members that are wanting to set up their own business too, and it’s been great hearing and helping each other out with different ideas. It’s nice knowing we are all feeling the same.”

“Supporting spouses with information about career choices and arming them with enterprise skills that maximises their success when pursuing their chosen career in employment or self-employment is essential for the balance of a military family” commented Daniel Elser, Assistant Director at RBL reenforcing the strength of an excellent collaborative partnership arrangement to deliver for this cohort; “I’m really pleased we are able to work with an organisation like X-Forces Enterprise which has such strong credentials and a track record of excellent delivery. Their handrail of support is extensive; from idea to scaling your own business.”

 The project delivery is being managed by Roger Cawte, XFE Training and Development Manager;

“Sally’s idea is simple but of course still needs to be thought through. The peer-to-peer support she got from the group has proven invaluable. She has her own network of like minded individuals to call on at any time. In addition of course to the network of experienced Business Captains on the XFE Knowledge Exchange Hub”.
