Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust awards funding support to new batch of Local Grants projects

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust (The Trust) has announced the latest awards made under the Armed Forces Covenant Local Grants Programme, supporting community integration and local delivery of services to military communities.

Following this current round of grant making, almost half a million pounds will now support projects across the UK, including six projects specifically working in Northern Ireland ranging from a peer support group to help reduce isolation and mental health issues amongst Veterans; to horticulture and nature-based therapy courses.

Policy Director at the Trust, Sonia Howe, said:

“Once again we’re pleased with the wide range of projects this vital funding is supporting. This is the fifth and final year of the programme in its current form and we look forward to sharing more information about a new local grants programme later this year”.

In other areas, the Trust awarded grants to support a wide range of activities including water sports in Wales, a theatre project in the North East and early-years music in the West Midlands.

A full list of grants awarded at this round can be found on the Trust’s website www.covenantfund.org.uk

There’s still time to apply for a Local Grants award

The final closing date for the Local Grants programme in 2019 is 2 December. The Trust is developing a new local grants programme, and will release more information about this in late November 2019.

Notes for Editors

The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust is an independent charity that manages the grant programmes funded by the Covenant Fund. We also run wider funding programmes that support the Armed Forces community. These include the £10M Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund.

The Veterans’ Community Centres Programme is a specialist pot of funding. Applicants must be Armed Forces charities with an existing building that requires refurbishment. Most grants will be for £30,000 or less. Grants of up to £150,000 will only be made in the final application round. Applicants seeking between £30,000 and £150,000 will need to have a mandatory conversation with the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust before submitting an application. Spaces supported under this programme are places where veterans can meet for social interaction rather than places where they might go to receive services
