The BIG Sleep Challenge: Gloucester Prison

South-West based charity Alabaré are thrilled to announce their flagship fundraising event, The Big Sleep, is heading to the brand new location of Gloucester Prison.

On Friday October 5th, participants will swap the comfort of their own homes and bed down for the night at the Victorian-era prison, all in the name of raising vital funds for ex-service personnel who have fallen on hard times.

This historic venue opened its gates in 1792 and served as a category B prison until its closure in 2013. The BIG Sleep will provide brave participants the opportunity to become the first willing overnight visitors as they head behind bars for the evening whilst raising funds for a fantastic cause.

Rebecca Mullen, Alabaré’s Fundraising and Development Manager, says;

“The BIG Sleep is an invaluable event for Alabaré in raising essential funds for the most vulnerable in our society. Gloucester Prison is a fascinating venue and we are extremely excited by the challenge brought spending the night there. Those taking part will be helping to make a real difference to the lives of homeless and vulnerable Veterans.”

Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans service can provide bed spaces for over 120 ex-service personnel every night as well as offering them the specialist care and support they need to help them gain the skills, confidence and opportunities to live fulfilling lives outside of the military.

Those wishing to take part pledge to raise a minimum of £100 to help ensure no Veteran needs to call the street home.
