Blesma Member Lexi set to tackle epic Tour de France climb

Serial record breaker Lexi Chambers plans to hit some serious heights for her latest challenge – the ascent of an iconic stage of the Tour de France.

Lexi, who holds seven world records for wheelchair endurance, will tackle the final 13.8km of Alpe d’Huez the day before the peloton takes on the legendary route in July.

“It’s going to be really tough, but I’m hoping to complete it in about 2.5 hours. I’ll have to keep the momentum going because on the steepest parts there will be a real danger of coming to a standstill, and it would be virtually impossible to get going again,” said Lexi, a former Royal Signals soldier who elected to amputate her left leg below the knee after suffering from long term Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.

Lexi is completing three marathons a week in preparation for what would be her eighth world record. She plans to follow that with an epic 3,000-mile crossing of the USA in a standard wheelchair next year which will involve completing somewhere in the region of 130 marathons at the rate of almost one a day.
