Blind Veterans UK

Blind Veterans UK – Communication Coordinator (Centres)

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

Rustington, West Sussex

Most of us grow up with 5 senses and can’t imagine what it’s like to lose any one of those.

For some ex-service people, this is their reality. Suddenly their whole way of life is changed, even walking to the shops becomes a huge task.

Fortunately, Blind Veterans are here to help rebuild their lives. But they can’t do it alone.

This is where you come in.

You’ll be responsible for the PR and communications activity within the Centre and creating content for external promotion. To do this you’ll need to really get to grips with day to day life in the Centre and spend a lot of time meeting staff and veterans to build case studies and stories to share with the world. You’ll need to be proactive to make these things happen.

You won’t just be using the standard channels in the standard ways; you’ll need to ensure your content is also accessible to potential service users using SMART technology.

You’ll need to work closely with your counterpart at our sister site and other key stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging and collaborate to work on bigger joint projects.

You’ll need experience in a communications or PR type role, and it would help if you had knowledge of the armed forces or of visual impairments, or both of course.

This is a full time role covering 35 hours per week, some evening and weekend working may be required occasionally.

We offer:

– Salary of £30,900 per annum
– Generous annual leave with the option to buy additional days
– Pension scheme with generous employer contributions
– Healthcare cash plan
– Access to legal services and mental health support
– Employee assistance programme
– Paid professional subscriptions and discounts
– Home working allowance
– Professional and personal development
– Enhanced pay

Blind Veterans UK helps vision-impaired ex-service people of every generation rebuild their lives after sight loss. We help blind ex-service people lead independent and fulfilling lives by supporting them with our in-depth expertise, experience and full range of services.

This position is subject to Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Checks.

We are only able to accept applications from candidates who are located in and eligible to work within the UK.  We are unable to provide any type of Visa sponsorship.

We embrace diversity and welcome applicants from people with a disability and from all backgrounds and cultures.

The current closing date is 11 October, however we may close the role early if we successfully appoint a candidate, so please don’t delay in submitting your application.
