Career Compass with X-Forces Enterprise is now in its third year, supporting the Armed Forces community to better understand the world of work, enterprise and opportunity.
At its heart, Career Compass helps people explore the economy around them: the size of the UK business market, where opportunities sit, how large employers operate, what roles exist across the private, public and third sectors, and how small businesses form part of wider supply chains.
One simple fact shows why this programme is powerful: at the start of 2025, there were 5.7 million private sector businesses in the UK, yet only 8,335 were large businesses with 250+ employees. The vast majority are SMEs, and understanding how this landscape works can open up new ways of thinking about careers, self-employment, contracting, supply chains and future opportunities.
