Famous faces join military charity BFBS to launch ‘BFBS Forces Fit’

Today military charity and media organisation BFBS joined forces with Dame Kelly Holmes and a number of other famous faces to launch #BFBSForcesFit – an initiative designed to get the UK military to share their fitness routines and motivate the rest of the country to stay active.

As life as we know it changes and physical interaction is limited, being active is more important than ever but many of us don’t know how to stay fit in the confines of our own home or without the workout equipment the gym normally provides.

For decades, the military have been pioneers in staying fighting fit in smaller, confined spaces, not to mention being creative with very little gear available. The saying, “Healthy in body, healthy in mind” is something that is deep rooted into the armed forces and BFBS wants to share that message with the help of some famous faces.

‘BFBS Forces Fit’ involves weekly online workouts from military instructors and sport and fitness influencers, that can be done from the safety of people’s homes, as well as discussions from key military figures and people sharing photos/videos of the exercises they have been doing.

Other notable faces working with BFBS to share the message include: Captain Tom Moore who is promoting walking in aid of the NHS, Rebecca Adlington OBE, Dancing on Ice star Matt Evers and Brian Wood MC.

On Wednesday 29 April Dame Kelly Holmes will be encouraging others to stay active as she takes over the BFBS Radio Facebook page at 7pm UKT with her own training workout.

This will be followed by a BFBS Radio and Instagram Live simulcast with WO1 Glenn Haughton OBE – Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chiefs of Staff – on Wednesday 6th May at 4pm UKT, discussing how physical activity can have a positive impact on mental health and well-being.

Dame Kelly Holmes says:

“Staying active and fighting fit is always so important but now more than ever. Encouraging and motivating everyone to do that through my workouts online and BFBS Forces Fit is something I’m so happy to do.”

BFBS Radio presenter, Former Royal Navy PTI and member of singing group The Overtones, Jay James who is leading the campaign says:

“Being in the military taught me that staying forces fit really is the key to a healthy body and mind. We’re calling on everyone, however hard or easy to share what they’re doing to inspire us all.”
