Do you long for a bit of Eastern promise and Turkish Delight will not suffice? SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is proud to announce its first ever trek to the ancient city of Petra from 12 to 17 October 2023.
The UNESCO World Heritage site lies in Jordan, between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea and has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Carved from the rock of a ravine, the city has played a central part in history for thousands of years. A major caravan centre on the silk and spice roads of the Hellenistic and Roman era’s, the city is carved into the rock face, surrounded by mountains, with passages hewn out of stone instead of streets. It is one of the world’s richest and largest archaeological sites set in a dominating red sandstone landscape.
The six-day trip will feature three days of trekking – taking in sites of natural beauty, historic Crusader castles and Neolithic archaeological sites – and finishes with a guided tour of the great Petra itself.
SSAFA brings you the romance of a trip of a lifetime, and the opportunity to know you’re helping to raise vital funds for military personnel.
