Funding new RBLI dementia care facility for elderly veterans

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is pleased to award a £100,000 grant to Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI), which will help fund a new state-of-the-art dementia care facility for older veterans.

RBLI provides unique integrated care for more than 300 veterans and their families on the charity’s 75-acre village in Aylesford, Kent. The multigenerational village includes emergency accommodation for veterans at risk of homelessness, family homes and apartments, assisted-living accommodation and two luxury care homes.

Our funds will go towards supporting a new dementia-friendly facility, which will complete the charity’s ‘full care pathway’.

RBLI has identified dementia support as an urgent priority area. The new facilities are expected to assist more than 100 Army veterans living with dementia and over 100 with high-dependency needs.

Lisa Farmer, Chief Executive of RBLI, said:

RBLI was established to ensure that military veterans – no matter the challenges they face – are given the tools they need to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

By 2025 it is estimated that there will be more than 1 million people in the UK diagnosed with dementia – with that number set to continue to increase in years to come.

Upon completing our full care pathway, made possible thanks to the unwavering support of ABF the Soldiers’ Charity, we can provide truly life-changing support to veterans battling this condition.

Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief of Staff at ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, added:

We have a longstanding relationship with RBLI and providing dementia care for elderly veterans is a priority area for our charity. We were pleased to support the new facilities at RBLI’s village, which will become a national centre of excellence in dementia and high-dependency care.
