Greenwich Hospital awards a £1.7 million three-year grant to The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust to fund regular charitable payments to Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel and their families in need

Greenwich Hospital has awarded a three-year grant totalling £1.7 million to The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust (RNBT) to contribute funding to regular charitable payments to those in need from within the Royal Navy community. These payments help recipients to live independently and with dignity, ensuring they can meet their regular financial commitments. While means-tested, the support is designed to reach those who need it most—at any stage of life.

Each year, The RNBT assists thousands of people who are serving or have served as Warrant Officers and below in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, as well as their families — whether together, separated, divorced, or widowed, as well as children. The Trust aims to improve their quality of life through a wide range of financial assistance, responding to needs arising from illness, disability, unemployment, and other challenges.

In addition to financial support, The RNBT also provides residential care for older members of the Naval community in its own care homes (Pembroke House Chatham and Admiral Jellicoe House Portsmouth) and Almshouses, ensuring comfort and companionship in later life.

Deirdre Mills, Director of Greenwich Hospital, said:

“Greenwich Hospital is pleased to continue its longstanding support for the work undertaken by the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust. This grant reflects our shared commitment that no one in the Royal Navy community should face hardship alone, with essential financial assistance available to those in challenging circumstances.”

Debbie Dollner, Chief Executive of The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust, said:

“This grant will help us maintain and strengthen our ability to provide regular financial assistance to those in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines community who need it most. It ensures we can continue delivering financial support that makes a real difference to people’s day-to-day lives.”
