The Gurkha Museum – Commercial Manager

Based in the heart of Winchester, The Gurkha Museum tells the moving and unique story of Gurkha Service to the British Crown.

Having recently converted to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) this Charity’s commercial and fundraising objectives have become even more integral to future success. As a result, the organisation is looking to recruit an experienced Commercial Manager, to grow their profile and income year on year across all income generation activities.

A large part of the role will centre around trading activities, and the post-holder will be responsible for all sourcing, ordering and pricing of stock, recording of sales, restocking, display, stock control and producing sales figures, forecasts and profit analysis figures.

You will also manage all of the Museums’ on-line shop pages and work in partnership with the Gurkha Welfare Trust identifying joint trading opportunities with a focus on developing robust trading systems.

From a management perspective, you will have responsibility for team-building, overseeing and coordinating the activities of volunteers, and other staff involved with income generation, marketing and fundraising in an effective and sensitive manner. You will also have an opportunity to develop and implement the communications and sponsorship strategy and, in cooperation with the Accountant, improve the performance monitoring and reporting of all income generation activities.

You should be able to demonstrate experience of operating and managing sales outlets to include off-site events, mail order and online trading.   Ideally the successful candidate will also have some familiarity with accountancy software and be adept at using Microsoft Office programmes.
