Haig Housing – Trustee

UK’s leading veterans charity, Haig Housing, is looking to strengthen its board with additional trustees with financial experience. This is an exciting time to join the board as we convert our growth ambitions and improvement plans into action.

What will you be doing?
Haig’s trustees play a pivotal role in supporting the executive team at Haig and ensuring that we operate to the highest standards of charity governance. We are looking for new board members to help us improve the lives of veterans and their families in need, by providing quality, affordable homes.

As trustee you will:

  • Contribute at four board meetings, a strategy offsite and four sub-committee meetings a year. These are usually held during business hours in Central London or at our home in Morden;
  • Develop a good understanding of Haig’s operations and the environment in which we operate. This will include meeting the people we help and the teams that support them;
  • Help the board ensure the highest standards of governance and strategic focus;
  • Monitor the performance of Haig’s activities in a constructive and inquisitive way;
  • Make your time, skills, and experience available to Haig and its executive (in and outside of regular board meetings);
  • Champion Haig’s purpose and values.
  • Trustees are appointed for a three-year term, with the opportunity for a further six years on re-appointment.
  • Reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

What are we looking for?

Our Trustees:

  • Bring a range of diverse professional and real-world experience to the Board;
  • Have a strong empathy with the Armed Services community;
  • Are articulate communicators with integrity and a strong commitment to Haig and the people we help;
  • Are committed to the highest standards of charity governance.

We are particularly looking to enhance the board with skills & experience in the following:

Professional accountancy and audit experience.

Haig Housing is committed to encouraging diversity and gender equality throughout our organisation. We actively encourage applicants who would help broaden the diversity, gender and age demographic of the Board.

Previous trustee experience is not necessary as we will provide new trustees with support and training.

What difference will you make?
You will be using your skills and experience to improve the lives of 1,500 veterans and their families by providing quality accommodation at an affordable rent. Haig has ambitious plans for the future and you, with your fellow trustees and the executive will help ensure that Haig continues to thrive and support future generations of veterans.

What’s in it for the volunteer:

This is an opportunity to join the board of a national veterans charity, dedicated to making a tangible difference to those who have served our country and their families. You will be joining at an exciting time for Haig as it undergoes a period of expansion and refurbishment.
