Welcome to the Macari Centre!

The Macari Centre is committed to helping end homelessness in Stoke-on-Trent.

We strive to provide the very best care for our residents and help them to get their lives back on track.

The Macari Centre was set up in 2016 and from humble beginnings, we now provide support and accommodation to around 21 individuals, at our base on Fletcher Road, Stoke.

The Centre houses individuals in self-contained apartments, giving them an address and space of their own, and access to support from our team of trained staff, 24 hours a day.

We firmly believe that our residents are capable of change and will achieve their full potential when offered a secure, supportive, empowering and non-judgmental environment.

It is our mission to provide such an environment and help reverse the spiral of homelessness.

Support Offered

The Macari Foundation strives to:

Provide a welcoming environment, where all individuals feel valued;
Train staff to engage with residents and form professional relationships;
Use these relationships to promote growth in residents self esteem, confidence and aspirations;
Provide information, support and, where necessary, practical help that will empower people to make and act on informed choices arrived at by themselves;
We run our own in house ‘Steps to Stability programme’ which is a six-week personal development and life-skills education
programme delivered by the Macari Foundation for the residents of The Macari Centre.
The programme is designed to support individuals experiencing homelessness to build
confidence, improve wellbeing, gain essential life skills, and prepare for independent
living. Across each six-week term, six residents will complete a structured curriculum of
accredited courses alongside a practical community cookery programme;
Sign post residents to professional external services for addiction services, mental and physical health conditions, financial advice and more;
With the aim to help and support residents back to independent living at the end of their personal journey.

The Seafarers Charity

Seafarers UK is a charity that provides grants to other front line charities working right across the maritime sector. We support charities that help seafarers or ex-seafarers from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Merchant Navy or fishing fleets. We also give grants to maritime youth groups and charities that help seafarers’ families, including widows and children.

Seafarers UK supports mainly UK-based charities that provide help across a broad spectrum of welfare need including housing, debt, injury, relationship breakdown and family bereavement. Occasionally we provide grants to maritime charities from other Commonwealth countries.

Veterans for Veterans in Care

Veterans for Veterans in Care (VFVIC) exists to ensure veterans living in care homes are recognised, respected and reconnected with the Armed Forces community. Our volunteer Veteran Visitors offer companionship, listen to life stories and help reduce isolation.

Support Offered

We work with care homes to identify residents who have served, understand their experiences and recognise their service. Our Empowerment Workshops give care staff practical insight into military life and help them provide more personalised care. We also support homes working towards the Veteran Friendly Framework and connect veterans, families and staff with local Armed Forces organisations when further support is needed.

Veterans Outdoors

Based in the South West, Veterans Outdoors is a unique charity offering support, friendship, and outdoor wellbeing activities. We understand the therapeutic benefits of working with horticulture, nature and animals or simply just being outdoors walking, kayaking, learning rural craft skills or just sitting around the fire drinking tea. We do all this and more – and our activities are open to anyone who has served in the Armed Forces, is still serving or who has a spousal connection. We also have unique ‘women only veterans’ projects too.

Veterans Regroup CIC

Veterans Regroup CIC is an award-winning charitable organisation that has been supporting the Armed Forces community in Cornwall since 2012. We are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, registered with the ICO, and proud members of Advice UK, Cobseo and ASDIC. We are also a Veterans’ Gateway partner.

Veterans Regroup CIC provides free support to Veterans, Serving Personnel, Operationally Qualified Seafarers and their immediate families across Cornwall. The organisation currently delivers eight multi-agency Armed Forces hubs, supported by more than 30 statutory and third-sector organisations, alongside specialist money and debt advice, health and wellbeing services, employment support, and a wide range of coffee mornings and social activities.

Our friendly, informal Armed Forces Hubs take place every month in Truro, Launceston, Redruth, Newquay, Penryn, Helston, Penzance and Liskeard. Each hub offers a welcoming space where veterans, serving personnel and families can meet over tea, coffee and biscuits while accessing support with dental appointments, health and wellbeing, housing, welfare, employment, education and training, volunteering, peer support, substance misuse, and compulsive gambling.

We also invite employers who can offer guaranteed interviews for veterans to attend one hub each month, providing a valuable opportunity to learn about job roles, recruitment processes and pathways into employment.

Veterans Response CIC is a veteran-led, community-based organisation based in South Tyneside, dedicated to supporting Armed Forces veterans and their families as they transition into civilian life. Established in 2013, the organisation provides holistic, practical support including housing assistance, welfare and benefits guidance, peer-led wellbeing support, and a year-round veterans foodbank.
We also deliver digital inclusion activities, accredited training, and employability support through partnerships with local authorities and colleges. Veterans Response CIC is deeply embedded in the local community and recognised as a trusted first point of contact for ex-service personnel. A core part of our support is our 10‑Step Programme, a practical, action‑focused pathway designed to help participants regain structure, purpose, and momentum in their lives. The programme combines walking, talking, and goal‑setting with peer support and community engagement, enabling veterans to progress at their own pace while being supported by others with shared experiences. Through our walks, group sessions, and structured programme, we help individuals develop resilience, strengthen social networks, and take positive action toward long‑term wellbeing and community involvement.

Woody’s Lodge provides a meeting space for those that have served in the Armed Forces or their families to meet like-minded people. We have staff who can help with advice on benefits and from filling and if the need arises we signpost to the appropriate organisation that can assist further with Mental health, housing, debt management, pensions etc.
