About Us

The Royal Air Force Families Federation exists to improve the quality of life for the RAF family around the world – at work or at home. We provide an independent voice for Serving personnel and their families and offer a confidential service that relies upon the integrity, and professionalism of its staff to deliver a Federation that is both credible and respected by all parties

About the team

We have an exciting newly created opportunity based at our office at RAF Wittering. This is a vitally important role to ensure that we support non-serving spouses in line with the MOD Families Strategy. As subject lead in the field of Spousal Employment and Overseas Support, you will be providing advice on employment opportunities as well as engaging with Armed Forces Covenant Champions to ensure that the impact of service life is understood. As a confident speaker and networker you will be instrumental in advocating for change at Government level to overcome the challenges with overseas employment following Brexit and the loss of freedom of movement. Working closely with the COBSEO and MOD Families Team, you will ensure the voice of the non-serving individual is appropriately represented. You will be working with a team of other specialists, all of whom help and support each other.

We are based at offices at RAF Wittering and this role is suitable for agile working, with regular attendance at our offices in Wittering.  Our current Spousal Employment Specialist, Greg, is now off to Europe and we are having to wave goodbye.  He will be happy to chat to you about the role – please email him at gregory.timlin@raf-ff.org.uk, or the Policy and Evidence manager (line manager) at Vanessa.plumley@raf-ff.org.uk for an informal chat or with any questions you might have.

About You

An understanding and empathy of the service lifestyle is key to being successful in this role. We need you to be a confident and persuasive communicator as you will be liaising with the relevant employment agencies, including Armed Forces Champions as well as our overseas stakeholders and highlighting concerns and issues. A proactive problem solver, you will take ownership of these issues and provide timely feedback to RAF personnel and their families with information on the progress of their cases. To be successful in this position you will have previous relevant experience in either developing policy to effect positive changes or extensive experience in advocating for others with a range of stakeholder groups. Previous research and reporting experience is required as you will develop written content and resources as well as monitoring, assessing and reporting on policy delivery. A driving license is an essential requirement as you will be representing the Federation at various events although we will give you plenty of notice.

We will support you with flexibility in your working hours as there will be occasions when you will have to undertake travel to create and maintain productive relationships with various RAF & MOD personnel, other employment specialists as well as overseas subject matter experts.

It is highly recommend that you read the role profile for a full overview of the primary responsibilities and person specification. This is available to download on our website www.rafa.org.uk
