RAFA – Charity Administrator (Connections for Life Team)

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

Salary: £18763 – £19750   37.5 hours per week worked Monday – Friday

About us

The RAF Association is one of the leading providers of welfare assistance to the RAF community and we exist to ensure that their sacrifice does not result in suffering, poverty, loneliness or isolation. Loneliness is painfully common in the RAF community. After years of camaraderie in a close knit community, many find it difficult to adapt to life beyond service, particularly when former comrades pass on and family members move away. ‘Connections for Life’ is the new way that the RAF Association is delivering a telephone friendship service by matching beneficiaries with our volunteers, working tirelessly to connect those in need with a telephone friend to help them feel less isolated, which is especially acute during the current pandemic.

About the team

This is not a usual ‘admin’ role. You will be joining a team of energetic and passionate individuals at an exciting time in our development and growth. Connections Administrators (CA) help to recruit and select the individuals applying for the Association’s varied volunteering roles including processing DBS checks. Placing our beneficiaries at the heart of everything we do, the CA will also provide information and support to anyone using the Connections for Life service, working collaboratively with colleagues to help match beneficiaries with volunteers and keep everyone informed. You will be part of a committed team and achieve the real satisfaction of being a significant part of providing Connections for Life services and seeing the difference this makes to the RAF community we support.

About you

This is a role where interpersonal and life skills outweigh formal qualifications. With no two phone calls being the same, you could find yourself speaking to an elderly hard of hearing beneficiary and then the next call could be speaking with a very nervous or shy volunteer looking to support the Connections for Life service. You will have an abundance of patience and empathy in equal measures and understand that your conversations and written communications represent the values of the Association. A high level of emotional intelligence, tact and diplomacy are integral to this role. Previous experience in handling large volumes of sensitive data on a database system is an essential requirement for this role and you will be comfortable working within a process driven system where accuracy and confidentiality are vital.

You will have a confident, professional and warm telephone manner to enable you to establish a great rapport with a diverse range of individuals.  We pride ourselves on our positive and proactive engagement with our volunteers and you will be supporting them throughout the volunteer application journey all the way from their initial interest, telephone interview, DBS check if required, providing access to training and deploying ready for making a big difference to the life of their matched beneficiary.

If you want to be part of a value led collaborative organisation that promotes ongoing development then this role is 100% for you.

It is highly recommended that you read the supporting job description and person specification prior to applying for the role.
