RAFAKidz Brize Norton hosts teddy bear’s picnic

Children, staff and families at RAFAKidz Brize Norton celebrated the Month of the Military Child with a teddy bear’s picnic.

April marks the Month of the Military Child, an awareness event that recognises and celebrates the important role that military children play in the Armed Forces family.

Guests were treated to a delicious picnic, as well as a treasure hunt, ice cream van and photo booth. They were joined by RAF Brize Norton’s Station Commander Group Captain Claire O’Grady, who said after the event: “Month of the Military Child is a special month in the Station’s calendar, and a brilliant opportunity to bring military families together.”

She added:

“We are incredibly proud of RAFAKidz Brize Norton, and it was a pleasure to celebrate with them today. The resilience of our families is one of Defence’s biggest asset and it’s a privilege to support any initiative that brings our fantastic community together. A huge thank you to the brilliant RAFAKidz team for organising the event and to all the parents/guardians who came down to support.”

The children even enjoyed a story from the RAF Association’s Secretary General Nick Bunting and giant teddy bear Sammy Bearington.

Sarah Rathbone, Nursery Manager at RAFAKidz Brize Norton, said:

“We were delighted to welcome so many people to our teddy bear’s picnic. It was wonderful to see so many children and families enjoying themselves. Service families often face unique challenges so it’s essential to have events like this to show them that they are part of our community and that they are not alone.”
