Sailors’ Children’s Society’s annual Bridge to Bridge cycling challenge has raised a record-breaking £50,088, bringing the event’s total over the past four years to an incredible £106,982.
This year, a record 17 riders took on the challenge, cycling more than 200 miles from the QEII Bridge to the Humber Bridge in support of children and families from seafaring backgrounds facing financial hardship and crisis.
Taking on the challenge this year were Adam Walsh, Jack Nicklas, Andrew Cassels, Sam Cawley, Rich Quelch, Chris Zanetti, James Pinchbeck, Megan Tudor, Dan Leather, Dave Cudbertson, Nick Tudor, Helen Simpson, Stefan Williams, Andrew Exon, Andrew Sison, Andy Rankin and Carl Nicklas, who helped make 2026 the biggest Bridge to Bridge challenge to date.

“It’s incredible to see how much Bridge to Bridge has grown over the last four years. This year we had a record number of riders taking part, including a fantastic group from John Good Group, and there was a brilliant atmosphere across the whole weekend.
“What started as a cycling challenge has become something really special. Every year more people get involved, more businesses get behind us and, most importantly, we raise more money for Sailors’ Children’s Society. To have now raised more than £100,000 across the four events is something everyone who has ridden, supported or sponsored the event should be incredibly proud of.”
The riders were supported throughout the route by Gareth Joseph, the event mechanic, whose expertise helped keep the team moving across the two-day challenge.
The event also received an incredible level of in-kind support from businesses across Hull and East Yorkshire, significantly reducing the costs associated with delivering a challenge of this scale and ensuring as much of the money raised as possible can support the charity’s work.
Hull Trains supported the team with travel to London ahead of the ride, while John Good Group provided hotel accommodation and the team meal on the second night. Beerhouse Vehicle Rental donated a van for the weekend, providing an essential support vehicle throughout the route.
Woods of Hornsea and CT1 provided personalised cycling jerseys for the riders, Ken Ellerker supported the team with supplies and inner tubes, and Sport Vision provided print support for the event.
A team from Blink Video also joined the riders for the entire weekend, volunteering their own time to capture the challenge and create content documenting the highs, lows and achievements along the route.

“Behind that number are children and families from seafaring backgrounds who turn to us during some of the most difficult periods of their lives. This money will help us provide financial, practical and emotional support when they need it most.”

Bridge to Bridge has now raised £106,982 over its four-year history, establishing the challenge as an increasingly important part of Sailors’ Children’s Society’s fundraising calendar.
With another record broken in 2026, the charity is already looking ahead to how the event can continue to grow and make an even greater difference for seafaring families in the years to come.
