Job description
An exciting opportunity for an experienced public relations officer to join The Royal British Legion’s national media team has become available.
You will be joining us at our busiest time of year to help run PR operations for one of the UK’s largest charity campaigns, the Poppy Appeal, and for the Remembrance period. However the work of the PR team extends year round including delivering creative campaigns to tell the stories of people we help, driving awareness of our political campaigning activity, managing relationships with our high profile supporters, and engaging media at national commemorative events.
The successful candidate will have a relevant degree or equivalent work experience, and will have experience of media relations, public relations or journalism within a high-profile national organisation. You will have experience in developing and delivering PR plans and campaigns, and will have worked with journalists at the national or regional level in securing significant media coverage.
You will be able to demonstrate the ability to engage and interest journalists, to draw up creative media plans, to communicate with a range of audiences and to manage events. You will also be able to manage a heavy workload with flexibility and have a positive approach to problem solving.
In return we offer excellent career progression including in-house and industry training, the opportunity to create and manage PR campaigns from start to finish and coaching from senior members of the department.
The Legion is the nation’s largest Armed Forces charity providing support and advice to all those currently serving in the British Armed Forces, veterans and their families. As the national custodian of Remembrance the Legion also holds a lead role in the nation’s commemorative activity.
