Sailors’ Children’s Society – Chief Executive

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

Sailors’ Children’s Society is a national charity that provides support to children whose parent has made a living at sea or from the inland canals or rivers. We help mariners from fishing fleets, Royal Navy and Merchant Navy families including ferries, cruise ships, cargo ships and Offshore industries. The Society currently supports some 230 families with 450 children with monthly grants, clothing assistance, family caravan holidays and emotional and practical advice and support.

The Society in March this year celebrated its 200 years Anniversary with a reception attended by its patron HRH the Princess Royal at Trinity House London.

We are incredibly proud of our history, but very conscious of the need to continually improve and progress in the ways we support those seafaring families who have suffered a life changing event such as bereavement, serious illness, divorce or lack of job security.

As an organisation we are excited by the opportunities that exist to grow the range of support and benefits that the Society could provide working in partnership with our existing Maritime funders, but also looking to work with both national and local charities to share best practice and possible collaborations to best help those in need.

This is a unique opportunity to lead and further develop a caring and forward looking organisation with big ambitions.

The Candidate will have:

  • Demonstrable history of success and achievement in a leadership role, including the development and delivery of strategy, organisational change and financial/operational targets
  • Experience of working at a strategic level
  • A track record of leading, managing and developing remote teams
  • Experience of managing and leading a growth agenda
  • Demonstrable strong organisational planning and project management skills
  • Experience or knowledge of fundraising or income generation
  • Commercial nous
  • Track record of successfully working with, and managing, a range of different stakeholders and partners
  • Experience of representing an organisation to external audiences and able to be a convincing ambassador
  • A demonstrable commitment to the values of the Society
