Seafarers/Marine Society and Sea Cadets – Mobile Marine Engineering Project Manager

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

Salary: £40,000 gross per annum

Marine Society and Sea Cadets (MSSC) is the nation’s largest maritime charity and the governing charity of the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC), a civilian voluntary youth organisation comprising some 400 or so volunteer Sea Cadet Units, throughout the UK. The SCC offers a wide range of youth opportunities with the same enduring objective – to foster good citizenship in the community.

We are currently seeking to appoint a Mobile Marine Engineering Project Manager. This role forms part of a joint project between the Sea Cadets and Seafarers UK. It will involve planning and delivering Marine Engineering workshops within schools in order to raise awareness and interest in Marine Engineering as a potential career choice. You will also be responsible for enabling greater access for our cadets to our Marine Engineering syllabus across the UK. This is a full time position and is a fixed term position until Dec 2018. There will be significant travel across the UK involved, particularly London and the South East of England.

The role requires a strong knowledge of Marine Engineering and the passion to inspire young people in the subject, particularly those who are currently under represented in the profession.  The main function of this role is to ensure the new project is implemented successfully as well as making training more accessible to cadets and helping them to understand how the skills they develop are aligned to RN/Maritime Careers. The role will also promote Sea Cadets as an organisation to those not currently enrolled in the organisation.

Sound experience of project management and management of small teams, as well as the ability to implement new and innovative training projects as part of the organisation’s strategic objectives are essential in what is a challenging and exciting role. The role will involve driving a 4 x 4 double cab pickup with a trailer, so a full driving licence with category B+E and significant relevant experience are also required.
