About SSAFA

Last year our teams of volunteers and employees helped more than 85,000 people in need, from Second World War veterans to young men and women who have served in more recent conflicts, and their families. SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. We are here for that person – any time they need us, in any way they need us, for as long as they need us.

SSAFA is an employer that values the diversity of its workforce and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. Our colleagues come from varied backgrounds but we all have one thing in common – the desire to make a difference. What’s it like to work for SSAFA?  Watch our video to find out.

About the role

This is a great opportunity for an experienced and self-motivated experienced Social Worker to join our team and contribute to further development of the service. This role is located at RAF High Wycombe, part of the friendly and supportive South Region. We are a hard-working team, dispersed across the South of England.  Although we all have our own area of responsibility, we support each other in delivering the best possible service to the RAF community.

You will have the opportunity to build on and develop your existing skills. You will work closely with RAF Station Commanding Officers and their Community Support staff, as well as Local Authorities, Health and other civilian agencies in relation to providing direct welfare support to all RAF personnel and their dependents. This may include, but is not limited to, one to one support; advocacy; initial assessments and support plans; signposting and referrals to outside agencies.

The role is an office-based isolated case worker post with the additional responsibility of providing advice and support to colleagues in the wider region. The hours of work are from 8.30am to 5.00pm.

About you

To carry out this role successfully you will have a Diploma in Social Work (or equivalent) and be registered with Social Work England or equivalent. You will also have demonstrable post-qualification experience of working within a statutory Adult and/or Children and Families setting and be skilled in completing thorough assessments to achieve successful outcomes. The ability to illustrate evidence of post qualification training/development is also essential, as well as good communication, organisational and IT skills. Once current restrictions are lifted, you must be prepared to travel regularly within the local region in the course of your work so a full driving licence is essential.

No agencies please. Any unsolicited submissions from agencies will be accepted as a direct application from the candidate and no fees will be payable.
