Swansea RAF sergeant targets Wales for his first Marathon – and it’s for SSAFA

Long-time fundraiser Sergeant Kieran Thomas RAF from Swansea will complete a double first on Sunday 16 April: his first Marathon and his first charity event for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

Kieran, who has 17 years’ service in the RAF, is an Identification Officer at 49 (Inkerman) Battery, 16 Regiment Royal Artillery, based at Thorney Island – and clearly has his sights set on rocketing across the finish line and raising as much as possible for SSAFA, the UK’s oldest tri-service charity.

Ahead of the Marathon, Kieran (37) said:

I’ve taken part in many fundraising activities over the years for various military charities, but this is the first time for SSAFA and my first Marathon, so it’s good to be running my debut one in Wales.

I’m really pleased to be supporting SSAFA in the Newport Marathon because the charity has helped friends of mine in the past, and so I know the outstanding contribution the organisation provides for serving and veteran personnel and their families, just as it has done since 1885.

Kieran has a target of £250, but with a little boost as the run approaches, he is hopeful that he can blast his way past that. Donations can be made at justgiving.com/fundraising/kieran-thomas-beaky, and will remain open until April 30, 2023.
