The villages of Tarrant Monkton and Tarrant Launceston held a joint collection this year for the Burma Star Association and SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, raising £300 for each charity by running a curry lunch.
Curry lunches are a particular military tradition, dating back to the colonial past, and are still seen in messes (military dining halls) around the country today.
SSAFA Dorset’s Chair, Colonel Terry Canham, was presented with a cheque by Fiona Forbes and Angus Forbes in the Crown Hotel, Blandford Forum.
Terry Canham said:
“We are very grateful to the Tarrants, it is a kind and generous donation and will help SSAFA Dorset continue to assist veterans in need, in our region.”
