Funds raised through Tesco’s first-ever round-up at the till partnership with Help for Heroes, alongside in-store collections, will help the charity provide life-changing support to veterans and their families.
Tesco customers have raised more than £435,000 by rounding up their shopping at Tesco checkouts, making online donations and at store donation points during Armed Forces Week.
The campaign, delivered in partnership with the Tesco Armed Forces Network, gave customers an easy way to support veterans and their families while doing their weekly shop.
During Armed Forces Week, customers could support Help for Heroes by rounding up the cost of their shopping at Tesco checkouts and through its Grocery Home Shopping website, as well as donating to charity volunteers collecting in Tesco stores across the UK.
In total, over 155 Tesco large stores took part in the campaign, with over 300 volunteers giving their time to support collection donation points across the UK. The final fundraising total will be confirmed once all in-store collection donations have been counted.
Last year, Help for Heroes announced a three-year partnership with the Tesco Armed Forces Network where together, they will deliver initiatives that will help build Armed Forces communities and inspire the wide public to get involved.
James Needham, Chief Executive of Help for Heroes, said:
“The generosity shown by Tesco customers during Armed Forces Week has been incredible. Every donation, whether it was rounding up the cost of their shopping to the nearest point or giving through one of our in-store collections, will help ensure veterans and their families can access the support they need to live well after service.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Tesco Armed Forces Network our volunteers and every customer who chose to support Help for Heroes. This partnership has shown the strength of public support for those who have served our country.”
Sabrina Lungo, Chair of the Tesco Armed Forces Network said:
“Our Armed Forces Network is dedicated to those who serve and have served, and we’re proud to support Help for Heroes and the vital work it does to support veterans and the Armed Forces Community. Thank you to all our customers and colleagues who generously supported this campaign either by donating or giving up their time to support in store collections.”
Funds raised will support Help for Heroes continue to provide specialist support to veterans and their families, including physical and mental health services, welfare advice, recovery programmes and community support across the UK.
