The Veterans Charity awarded second place in the Best Community Engagement event

On 18 March East Midlands Railway (EMR) and The Veterans Charity were awarded second place in the Best Community Engagement event at the Community Rail Awards 2024.

The EMR team and The Veterans Charity have been working together since 2021, on “moving” acts of remembrance using the community rail network and EMR trains across their region. EMR have involved their stakeholders across the region, utilising art, poetry, talks and presentations and trips of remembrance for young and old alike.

The Veterans Charities CEO, Mr Danny Greeno and Mr Iain Henderson, the creator of the Routes of Remembrance and Trustee of The Veterans Charity, were invited by EMR to join their CEO and his team in Swansea at this prestigious awards event. The pair were impressed by the wide range of awards and organisations represented and now fully appreciate why EMR and others are referred to as the “railway family”.

It has inspired more ideas as the team work to keep remembrance on track once again in 2024 and we look forward to working with them again in the near future.
