Update from the Captain Tom 100

The team from the Captain Tom Foundation have shared the following update:

With only days to go until the start of the Captain Tom 100 challenge weekend we wanted to check in and see how you’re getting on. If you haven’t already started, it’s not too late to get involved and if you have, now’s the time to really ramp up the promotion and encourage your supporters to raise as much as they can.

Captain Sir Tom Moore’s message was of hope and positivity across the world for each and everyone of us. This challenge is for you. A chance to rally supporters, use the materials provided and most importantly see the joy brought to your supporters as they complete their challenges whatever their passion or skillset.

It’s simple to get involved in The Captain Tom 100, just four simple steps:

  1. Check out and download the marketing toolkit on The Captain Tom 100 website
  2. Add your personalised Virgin Money Giving or JustGiving campaign link to your website and emails
  3. Post the link on your organisation’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts and reach out to your database via email and social media
  4. Encourage your supporters to share their activities on social media using the hashtag #captaintom100

Many of you have asked if we can share our promotional video with celebrities such as Dame Judi Dench, David Beckham, Jessica Ennis-Hill and many more sharing their challenges.

You can apply for cross sharing rights by emailing media@captaintom.org and we’ll be able to grant you access.

If you need some inspiration, take it from The Royal British Legion here. Sophie Randles-Dunkley, Head of Mass Participation Fundraising, Events & Stewardship, said:

“The challenge has resonated massively with our supporters.  It’s been simple to slot into the fundraising calendar around our owned events.

After a small social campaign and promotion to warm audiences, over 1000 supporters have signed up.  They receive our usual fundraising pack plus a 1-page CT100 insert, and welcome call from our team.  We’re well on track to smash our target of £20,000.

Captain Tom was passionate about our work and we are incredibly grateful that we can continue helping members of the Armed Forces community in his name long into the future.”

We’ve even got Mary Berry involved! https://bit.ly/3axJ3Ip

There will be a significant increase in media coverage over the weekend to spread the word. You can expect to see the #CaptainTom100 across TV, radio and print media. Just type in the hashtag to see what people are up to.

We want to take this opportunity to thank you again for supporting the campaign and also to remind you that 30 April – 3 May is just the starting line. Fundraising and challenges can continue way beyond that, so keep encouraging your supporters to dream up their challenges and raise lots of money for your cause.

Good luck and have fun!

Best wishes
