On Sunday 10 May, WRAC veteran Lt Col Rowena Naile MBE set off on an amazing mission – to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats. Rowena was accompanied by a friend, Alasdair, and together they were fundraising for three charities – The Women’s Royal Army Corps Association, Dementia UK, and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Rowena and Alasdair were supported along the way by many members of the WRAC Association who came out to cheer them on as they passed through their local towns. Our members are female veterans and current servicewomen from across all three branches of the armed forces. The WRAC Association kept everyone updated on their progress via their Facebook page so that anyone local knew when to turn out and wave.
They completed their challenge on Saturday, taking 14 days in total. Such are their fitness levels that Association member Kate Bell who was at John O’Groats to welcome them said that they arrived looking as though they had only cycled from around the corner!
Rowena told us that seeing these members supporting her gave them the most tremendous boost and really helped to motivate them along their way. She would like to thank everyone who showed up to give their support, and of course everyone who has sponsored their challenge.
A huge congratulations and thank you to Rowena from all of us at the WRAC Association! Membership of the Association is free so if you are a woman who is serving or has served please join us – wraca.org.uk/join
