Mr Atkinson brings a distinguished record of service, leadership, and community engagement to this new role. He was born in London, educated at Haileybury and Imperial Service College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He served for six years with the Royal Green Jackets before transitioning into a successful career in the brewing and leisure industries. He now has a portfolio of Non-Executive positions and is involved in charities around the county.
His commitment to public service is evident in his role as HM The King’s personal representative in Hampshire since 2014, following earlier appointments as a Deputy Lieutenant and Vice Lord Lieutenant. He maintains strong ties with the military, holding honorary positions such as President of the South East Reserve Forces and Cadet Association, Honorary Colonel of the 4th Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, and Honorary Captain in the Royal Navy.
On his appointment, the Lord Lieutenant said:

I have attended a number of Drop-in events over the years and have always been hugely impressed with everyone helping our veterans. I very much look forward to continuing this in the years to come.”
