Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity welcomed supporters, partners and friends to its annual evening reception at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, following the Admiralty Carols Service.
Generously sponsored by MBDA, Navy Leaders and SiXworks, the reception provided an important opportunity for the charity to thank its community for their continued commitment to improving the lives of sailors, marines and their families.
This year’s Admiralty Service – attended by the First Sea Lord, General Sir Gwyn Jenkins, and members of the Navy Board – was the first to take place following his appointment. The service marked the beginning of the Royal Navy’s festive season with the traditional lighting of the first Advent candle.
Musical performances by the brass quintet from the Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland and the Chapel Choir of the Royal Hospital School, added to the ceremonial atmosphere.
Lessons were read by Louise Sandher-Jones MP, Minister for Veterans and People; David Boyson, Maritime Account Lead at SiXworks; and Rear Admiral (Retd) Simon Charlier, Senior Defence and Political Advisor at MBDA.
Leading Medical Assistant Grace Huband of His Majesty’s Submarines and Major James Poole RM, Chief of Staff to the Migration Team at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, delivered the readings on behalf of the Royal Navy.
Following the service, guests gathered in the Crypt for the RNRMC reception, where the First Sea Lord reflected on the significant impact of the charity’s work across the Naval Service and expressed his gratitude for the steadfast support of its donors, partners and advocates.
As the Principal Charity of the Royal Navy, RNRMC remains committed, ready and alongside the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary communities – past, present and future.
