Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) is proud to support its Ambassador and Honorary Royal Marine, Chris Terrill, as he marks his 75th birthday with an extraordinary series of fundraising challenges in aid of the Royal Navy community.
This year, Chris is taking on the Brighton Half Marathon, followed by the Brighton Marathon and the iconic London Marathon, alongside several additional events. Through these efforts, he aims to raise vital funds to support serving personnel, veterans, and their families.
Chris has long demonstrated exceptional commitment to the Naval community. At 55, he became the only civilian – and the oldest person ever – to earn his own Royal Marines green beret, an achievement that remains his proudest possession.
In a remarkable display of determination, he previously completed the Brighton Marathon on crutches in 6 hours, 11 minutes and 11 seconds, just months after a hip replacement operation. He undertook the challenge in memory of his friend, Robert ‘Bob’ Hawkins MBE RN. The achievement was later ratified by Guinness World Records as the fastest marathon on crutches (male).
Alongside his sporting accomplishments, Chris has dedicated much of his career to documenting the lives, courage and resilience of Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel, producing more than 75 broadcast films charting the experiences of sailors and marines in training and on frontline operations at sea and on land.
“The Royal Navy family has given me far more than I could ever repay – purpose and motivation whenever I’ve needed direction, incredible friendships that have endured a lifetime, and inspiration drawn from the courage, humour and professionalism of those who serve. As I mark my 75th year, these challenges are not about personal milestones, but about honouring that extraordinary and all embracing community. This is my way of saying thank you – and of standing, once again, alongside the sailors, marines, veterans and families who have shaped my life in ways beyond measure.”
Every donation in support of Chris’s 75th birthday fundraiser will help RNRMC continue providing lifelong support to those who serve, those who have served, and their families, whenever and wherever they are in need.
