Forces in Mind Trust are pleased to share a new policy brief, ‘Improving data access and coherence across the transition landscape’, drawn from the findings of the Understanding the Transition from Military to Civilian Life report.
The research shows that important progress has been made in strengthening support for Service personnel and their families, including through a growing range of government-backed initiatives and Armed Forces charity sector provision. However, it also highlights that the wider transition landscape can still be complex and difficult to navigate, and that current challenges around data quality, access and sharing can make it harder to understand outcomes fully and identify where additional support may be needed.
This policy brief therefore highlights the need for a more coherent ecosystem of support, improved data quality and sharing across MOD and statutory and non-statutory providers, stronger evaluation of support and interventions, and a longer-term evidence base on the transition experiences of ex-Service personnel and their families. We hope the brief is useful in showing where a more coherent support ecosystem, stronger evaluation, and better clarity on gaps in provision could help the sector target support more effectively and reduce duplication or confusion for end-users.
Given your role, this brief may be of particular interest in supporting conversations about how the transition landscape can be made more coherent, better informed by evidence, and more effective in identifying and responding to need.
We hope you find this brief valuable and encourage you to share this with your networks where appropriate. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss any details of the report or brief further. Please contact policy@fim-trust.org if you would like to arrange a meeting.
