Team Sea Dust returns to Race Across the UK to defend their Trailblazer Title

After setting the fastest time in last year’s inaugural Race Across the UK and earning the coveted Trailblazer Award, Team Sea Dust is returning in 2026 ready to take on the challenge in support of Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

Ian Warwick and Andrew Aldridge from Chester, Cheshire will once again test their resilience, resourcefulness and teamwork as they race across the country with limited funds, relying on strategy, determination and the kindness of strangers along the way.

Ian and Andrew work closely together at venture capital investment management firm Deepbridge Capital, where Ian serves as Managing Partner and Andrew as Chief Operating Officer. Their professional relationship proved to be a winning formula during the first Race Across the UK, and they are eager to see whether their complimentary skills can deliver success once again.

As regular travellers, both Ian and Andrew were drawn to the unique format of Race Across the UK, which combines adventure, strategy and endurance while raising vital funds for serving personnel, veterans and their families.

For Ian, the challenge also carries a personal connection to the Royal Navy. He joined the Service in October 1976, beginning his naval career at HMS Raleigh before training as a Tactical Radio Operator at HMS Mercury. Over the following years, he served aboard HMS Kent and HMS Glamorgan, as well as at communications centres HMS Nelson and HMS Neptune, building the teamwork, resilience and problem-solving skills that continue to serve him today.

Having experienced the race first-hand, they know exactly what awaits them.

“The toughest part is definitely the mental challenge,”  they explained. “Having won the Trailblazer Award in the inaugural RATUK, we know how relenting the race is and how mentally challenging it is to always be thinking about budget, routes, timetables and racing.”

While the competition is intense, it was the people they met along the way that left the biggest impression.

“The camaraderie between the teams last year was something really special, and we look forward to rekindling that banter and community.”

The pair also spoke warmly about the generosity they encountered throughout the journey, highlighting the support they received from members of the public who helped make the race such a memorable experience.

For anyone considering entering Race Across the UK, Team Sea Dust has a simple message:

“Do it. It’s brilliant fun, but a genuine challenge. You will meet brilliant people, experience the kindness and generosity of the British public and be a part of a brilliant charity and cause.”
