A team of serving Royal Navy personnel known as The Bald Wanders are preparing to test their resilience, teamwork and determination as they take on Race Across the UK this autumn.
The event will see teams navigate from Dartmouth to Inverness over four days, relying on public transport, strategy and teamwork, while raising vital funds for the Naval community.
Robert and Jamie, both from Devon, share a passion for adventure and pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones and were drawn to the challenge by its unique mix of problem-solving, endurance and fundraising.
The team says that while the challenge itself was a huge attraction, supporting RNRMC was the driving force behind their decision to sign up.
“ As serving personnel, we know how important the support provided by RNRMC is to members of the Naval family. Taking part gives us the chance to challenge ourselves while raising awareness and vital funds.
“ We have seen firsthand the positive impact the charity and the organisations it supports have across the Naval community. Knowing that help is available for serving personnel, veterans and their families makes us proud to support the charity.“
Race Across the UK is designed to test competitors both physically and mentally, with teams required to navigate the country on a limited budget while overcoming challenges and unexpected obstacles along the way.
Despite the challenge ahead, the team are eagerly anticipating the adventure.
“We’re looking forward to meeting new people, seeing parts of the UK we might never normally visit and experiencing the unpredictability of the challenge. Most of all, we’re excited to work together as a team and discover what we can achieve when things get difficult.”
In the lead-up to the race, The Bald Wanders have been raising funds through raffles, social media campaigns and the support of friends and family. They are also using the opportunity to highlight the work of RNRMC and encourage others to get involved.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support we’ve received so far, but we can always use more donations. Every contribution helps support members of the Naval community and their families.”
Throughout the race, the team will proudly represent their Royal Navy workplace, colleagues and the wider Naval family, while also carrying the support of their local communities, friends and loved ones.
